At 0724 hours, RFC was dispatched to the Jaguar/Land Rover dealership in the 300 block of East Lancaster Avenue for an automatic fire alarm, reported to be a pull station. Within a minute of dispatch, Delaware County Fireboard advised that a second call was received reporting fire and smoke coming from the back of the building. The call was upgraded to a building response which added an engine from Chester County Station 2 (Berwyn).
Quint 15 arrived on location and stretched an 1 3/4” line into the first floor. Firefighters encountered a fire in the parts caddy, which is a mechanical, rotating, storage system spanning the basement and first floor of the building. The incident was upgraded to a working fire dispatch which brought additional resources to the scene.
Firefighters had to use saws to cut through the metal sheeting around the parts caddy to gain access to the fire, which was a time consuming process. A second alarm was struck to bring additional personnel to assist with the exhaustive challenge of the firefighting effort. Due to the size of the building, the trailer mounted PPV fan from Delco Station 49 (Milmont) was requested to facilitate ventilation. The last of the apparatus cleared the scene at 1106 hours.
Thanks to Brookline and Manoa Fire Companies for covering the township during the fire.
