At 3:57 this afternoon, RFC was dispatched to a report of a brush fire in the 900 block of Newtown Road. Fireboard reported numerous callers reporting that the fire was spreading. Newtown Fire Company was just clearing a call of their own and were diverted to Newtown Road. Due to the numerous calls and the dry and windy conditions, Berwyn Fire Company was requested for an engine. Tac 15 arrived in the area with a large amount of smoke blowing across the road. Crews found an involved area approximately 100' long adjacent to the roadway and spreading uphill. The crew from the Tac deployed a booster line and a forestry line to begin extinguishment. The engine provided a supply line from a nearby hydrant and fed the water to the Tac. Newtown Square was placed in a driveway above the incident and extinguished the fire that had reached the top. Berwyn arrived and assisted RFC crews. All units cleared the scene in approximately 30 minutes.
