This past weekend, two Radnor Fire Company members, Deputy Chief Michael Maguire and Assistant Chief Paul Leighton, completed an ice rescue course through the Montgomery County Fire Academy. RFC members joined members of the Manoa and Darby Fire Companies on the ice to complete the class. This program is designed to familiarize the rescuer with the safest and most effective method of dealing with an ice emergency. Members learned how to identify ice conditions, hazards, and escape routes. Practical exercises included utilizing ice rescue equipment for shore, boat, and direct contact rescue techniques. This course was designed for agencies that may respond to ice rescues.
