House Fire on North Wayne Avenue

By Deputy Chief Joe Maguire
July 10, 2024

At 5:19 PM, RFC and an engine from Berwyn was dispatched to the 700 block of North Wayne Avenue in Tredyffrin Township for a reported building fire.
Deputy 15 arrived to find a three story single family dwelling with smoke showing from the Bravo side of the house.
Quint 15 arrived immediately behind the Deputy and deployed an 1 3/4" line to the front door.
While doing a 360 around the house, loud electrical arcing could be heard coming from the basement.
PECO was requested to the scene.
The Quint crew entered the basement and used a dry powder extinguisher to knock down the electrical fire.
Engine 15 laid a 5" supply to the Berwyn engine which was in the driveway behind the Quint.
Additional crews arrived and deployed three more 1 3/4" lines to the upper stories of the house.
A request was made for more manpower due to the high temperatures which necessitated rotating crews in and out of the house at a faster rate.
Walls and ceilings were opened on all three floors with a lot of fire located.
Chester County Fire marshals responded and handled the investigation.
The last of the crews left the scene just before 9 PM to return to the station where they cleaned equipment for over an hour to get it back in service.
While at the fire scene, units from Oakmont, Rose Tree and Garden City responded with Chief 15 to the Skunk Hollow Park to extinguish a large mulch fire. Those crews spent approximately 90 minutes on location.
Many thanks to all of our assisting companies for their help on such a sweltering afternoon.
