Passing of Edward J. Forde, Sr.

The Radnor Fire Company regrets to announce the passing of Edward J. Forde, Sr. Ed and his family have been longtime supporters and friends of the Radnor Fire Company. Ed is well known for running the Ed Forde Service Center in Devon, which he founded in 1964.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Radnor Fire Company, 121 South Wayne Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087 or the Berwyn Fire Company, 23 Bridge Avenue, Berwyn, PA 19312.

Obituary

Edward J. Forde, Sr. age 83, of Newtown Square, PA, died peacefully in his home on February 13, 2015. Raised on a farm in Edgemont, PA, his family relocated to the city in 1942 to support the war-effort. Ed graduated from St. Thomas More High School in 1949 and went to work for Westinghouse, along with his father and brother. Ed joined the US Air Force proudly serving his country as a Communications Specialist in Alaska, after which time he went to work for Bell Telephone Company. In 1964, Eddie started his own business, Eddie's Esso, now known as Ed Forde Service Center. Ed was still going to work every day for the past 50 years.

Eddie was the loving father of Linda F. Kasper (Mark), Sheila J. Hanson (George), and Edward J. Forde, Jr. (Michele). He was the devoted grandfather of Sydney, Eric, Matthew, Edward III and Christopher. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Patrick and Sarah Forde, his two brothers William and John Forde. He is survived by his two sisters Mary Forde and Julia Salter (Daniel) and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was a long-time member of the Main Line Business Community. He will be fondly remembered by many associates, customers and friends. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor, a twinkle in his eye, and a quick joke. Ed was best described as "a good man". The Main Line Tow Truck Drivers have a wonderful tradition of honoring one of their own. There will be a tow truck procession immediately following the Mass.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9:30 – 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements: The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA.
